Many companies have made headlines over the past several years for their efforts to discuss or mitigate unconscious bias via learning. Unfortunately, the assumption persists—inside and outside the L&D profession—that these types of training don’t work, when, in fact, they can be tremendously effective if done well. In this webcast, hear from Mike Rognlien, one of the builders of Facebook’s Managing Unconscious Bias training (managingbias.fb.com) about best practices for building the business case for bias training, developing and delivering compelling content, and the work needed outside of the training program itself to prepare the culture of your organization to embrace it practically.

Multiple Hats Management

Mike Rognlien is the founder of Multiple Hats Management, a consultancy focused on building leadership at every level of an organization, including a strong organizational culture and awareness of and ability to manage the biases that prevent us all from achieving our best potential.

Before starting his own company, Mike was one of the founding members of the L&D team at Facebook, where he spent 6.5 years building all things learning—onboarding, manager development, hard conversations, and, in partnership with COO Sheryl Sandberg, the company’s Managing Unconscious Bias training (http://managingbias.fb.com). Mike was a featured expert speaker for visiting executives and other VIP guests. He has given dozens of internal and external talks on Facebook’s culture, people philosophies, and practices to leaders from every type of organization, private and public, government and civilian. Mike oversaw the growth of the learning team and Facebook’s culture as the company expanded from 1,700 to almost 25,000 employees and has worked in Facebook’s Menlo Park HQ, New York City, and Chicago offices.

Prior to joining Facebook, Mike was the director of Microsoft Client Services for Intrepid Learning Solutions, where he managed a global team of 27 facilitators charged with delivering all of Microsoft’s elective Employee and Manager Development programs. He has held similar senior L&D positions at Washington Mutual Bank, Intel Corporation, and USAA.

Mike holds a bachelor’s in organizational communication from California State University, Sacramento, and a master’s in HR and organization development from the University of San Francisco. He has been PHR certified by the Human Resources Certification Institute since November 2004. Mike resides in Chicago and is the author of This Is Now Your Company, published in 2018.
